History of google /By khushi gupta/ November 18,2023

 1.  In January 1996, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, both PhD students at Stanford University in California, embarked on a research project that would eventually become Google. Coming from academic backgrounds, they understood the significance of citations in research papers.

2.  To quantify the importance of websites, they developed PageRank, a system that analyzed incoming links. This became the foundation of their search engine.

Although the concept of creating a search engine originated from Page, he collaborated with Scott Hassan, who played an incidental role as the third founder of Google, to write the necessary code. Over time, Hassan pursued a career in robotics, while Brin joined the team and contributed to the final product.

NAME- GOOGLE

GOOGLE /By khushi gupta/ November 18,2023

The founders of Google ultimately decided to name their company “Google” after the mathematical term “googol”, which represents the number 1 followed by 100 zeros.

They opted for this name instead of “Backrub” because it sounded more appealing and aligned with their goal of organizing an immense amount of information on the internet.

This choice of name played a significant role in shaping the successful trajectory of Google.

Funding Updates /By khushi gupta/ November 18,2023

The moment when they received their seed investment of $100,000 from Sun Microsystems founder Andy Bechtolsheim coincided with their relocation to a new workplace.

Surprisingly, Google was not even a registered company yet when they received the generous amount, which was twice the sum they initially requested. Andy was impressed with their pitch and satisfied with their answer to his question about how they planned to monetize search results. Page and Larry proposed the idea of placing relevant ads in search results and charging for their placement.

With the funding secured, Google officially became a registered company on September 4, 1998, with Larry Page as the CEO, operating from their garage headquarters.

  1. The Introduction of Google Chrome Google Chrome, the popular web browser, was developed by Google as a solution to the high costs incurred from paying royalties to other browsers to maintain its status as the default search engine.
  2.  To achieve this, Google hired a team of talented developers from Mozilla Firefox to create their own browser. Initially, Eric Schmidt, one of the founders, had reservations about the idea, but he was astounded by the impressive product they presented.

On September 2, 2008, Google Chrome was officially launched as a beta version for Windows XP. It entered the market as a sleek and minimalist browser, disrupting the existing landscape just like Google itself, and quickly gained popularity.

Embracing Failure as a Key to Success Despite having released numerous products over the years, Google is not afraid to experiment and take risks.

They understand the value of failure and acknowledge that it contributes to their overall success.

In an interesting approach, Google has discontinued at least one product for each letter of the English alphabet from their lineup. As of 2019, they have terminated 16 apps, 151 services, and 13 hardware projects in total. Google takes pride in their attitude towards failure, which is to embrace it and learn from it.

They have implemented a process for documenting and analyzing mistakes, ensuring that valuable lessons are derived from them. This method allows them to:

  1. Identify the most critical issues in their offerings.
  2. Create a comprehensive record of both successes and failures.
  3. Minimize blame for underperforming products or services, fostering a culture of productivity and growth.

Google has become synonymous with the internet, so much so that the term “Google” is now recognized as a verb in the Oxford Dictionary. It is safe to say that almost everyone who uses the internet has interacted with Google’s services or products in some way. The sheer scale of Google’s reach is mind-boggling. With over a billion people using its products and services, the company has firmly established itself as a dominant force in the digital world. To put things into perspective, Google currently holds a staggering 92.03% of the global search engine market share as of August 2021, according to StatCounter. This level of dominance is unparalleled. In terms of financial worth, Google is valued at approximately $280 billion, a testament to its immense success and influence.
